About

Matthew Cordwell is a landscape artist inspired by the natural world and changing light. Painting en plein air with oil paints, he seeks to capture the essence of a place in time with expressive marks.

 

Working outside in all conditions, each painting is imbued with the emotional qualities of the scene in front of the artist. "Every sense is alert and gathering information whilst painting on site, sensory inputs cannot be separated from the scene before me and form an indispensable quality in the painting itself." This living of the landscape and elements gives Matthew's artwork a painterly feel loved by collectors and admirers.

As well as working from life, Matthew enjoys painting commissions for clients based on photographs where special locations and memories can be brought to life.
